Zunfthaus zur Meisen is Zürich’s most beautiful guildhall; it was designed by architect D.Morf (1700-1773) and built in 1752 for the city’s wine merchants. The ‘Zur Meisen’ guild of vintners, publicans, saddlers and painters, was founded in 1336. Zunfthaus zur Meisen houses the Swiss national Museum’s collection of 18th century Swiss ceramics and porcelain from the Kilchberg-Schooren works, which flourished in Zürich from 1763-1790. Of particular interest is the 300-piece dinner service made for the Monastery of Einsiedeln in 1775. Nyon porcelain, Swiss pottery and faience work are also on display. The Baroque stuccoed ceilings are outstanding.
