The celebrated Haus Zum Ritter (House of the Knights) dates from 1485 and is located on the corner of Münstergasse and Vordergasse. It is famous for its fresco decoration by the Swiss painter Tobias Stimmer (1539-1584), best known for his paintings on the Strasbourg astronomical clock in France. The present frescos are 1938 copies by Carl Roesch; the originals from 1568-70, being preserved in the Museum zu Allerheiligen (see separate entry). The works are in allegorical Renaissance style and depict the knightly virtues; the central panel shows Odysseus in the Land of the Lotus-Eaters, tempted by a voluptuous woman
