The Wolkenbügel (Cloud Hanger) is a housing estate on the western side of Zürich, which was built on the site of the former Steinfels area. Designed by the local architectural firm of Andreas Herczog and Ernst Hubeli, it is a most interesting example of contemporary architecture and has characteristics which set a standard for urban living. The name comes from the steel and glass structure, akin to a horizontal skyscraper and 160 metre long, which seems to float over the buildings below and is only connected to them by a beam structure.
