Willislau is a picturesque town, with a population of around 7,500, located about 12 km southwest of Sursee and 557 metres above sea level. It has well preserved town walls from around 1400 and two towers from the 16th and 17th centuries. The old town has remained much as it was, following rebuilding after the disastrous 1704 fire. Features include Müligass with its old wooden houses, the old mill and musical instrument collection (see separate entry), the parish church, town hall and town fountain. The pilgrimage chapel of Heiligblut has a fine decorated ceiling.
