The picturesque small town of Wiedlisbach is located approximately 10 km northeast of Solothurn and has a population of around 2,200. It was founded in 1280 by the Counts of Fribourg, who also founded Solothurn. Features include the corner tower, which is part of the fortifications in the Hinterstädtli, and St Catherine’s Chapel dating from 1338, which has late-Gothic frescos. The history museum in the Kornhaus (Städtli 20) has collections of ceramics, glass and tin from Bernese and Solothurn studios. In 1974, Wiedlisbach was awarded the prestigious Wakker Prize for the development and preservation of its architectural heritage.
