The popular Weinplatz is the oldest city square in Zürich and is named after its landmark 1909 fountain, which depicts a winegrower with a basket of grapes in hand. Weinplatz was used as a corn exchange in the 17th century and the Hotel zum Storchen has been offering hospitality for 650 years. The square has a scenic view of the Rathaus (see separate entry) and the Rathausbrücke which was built in 1878 and is a successor to a series of earlier bridges. Visitors often pause to photograph the well preserved old burghers’ houses on the opposite bank.
