The Water Cascade in the Metalli Shopping Mall is the creation of Zug architect Hans Peter Ammann (b.1933) who, together with his partner Peter Baumann, was also responsible for the design of the Casino Theatre. The structure with its steps was inaugurated in 1955 and is the focal point of the UBS building exterior. The cascade only operates in summer months, when the daylight on the running water is reflected in the main hall of the bank. The Federal Technical High School of the University of Zurich tested the design and the builder was Zug stonemason Christian Breitenstein.
