Schloss Wartensee, now a congress and meeting centre, has large grounds and is located some 2 km southeast of Rorschach, on a hill overlooking Lake Constance. The western tower was built in 1243 and the castle has a long history as an aristocratic residence. The Blarer von Wartensee family, who owned the property from 1377 to 1719, have much to do with its present day appearance. The son of English composer Robert Lucas Pearsall de Willsbridge renovated the property in the style of a neo-gothic castle in the period 1843 to 1853. The latest renovation was carried out in 1994-1996.
