Wartegg Castle is in Rorschacherberg, approximately 15 km northeast of St Gallen and this historic building has been meticulously restored. Since 1994, it has been owned by Christoph and Angelika Mijnssen; it is now a holiday and seminar hotel with a restaurant open to the public and also stages classical music concerts. The castle was built in 1558 by the Blarer von Wartensee family and in 1822 passed into the possession of the von Thurn family. Its long history as an aristocratic residence, including friends of Napoleon, ended with Zita of Bourbon-Parma, the last Empress of Austria.
