Located about 11 km west of St Gallen, the Walter Zoo is the largest private zoo in Switzerland and its innovative range of attractions makes it an ideal family outing. Opened in 1961 by Walter Pischl and his wife, the zoo has mammals, including one of Switzerland’s largest chimpanzee enclosure, birds, reptiles and fish, all living in generous facilities. There is a stroking zoo, a night viewing programme, a bouncing castle, camel rides, and a one hour plus show in the circus tent. You can picnic, barbecue or use the on site restaurant. All this and much more is on offer.
