Built between 1682 and 1690, Waldegg Castle is one of Switzerland’s most beautiful country estates and its picturesque Baroque-style gardens and tree-lined avenue are worth a visit in their own right. The castle opened in 1991, as part of the 700 year jubilee celebrations of the Swiss Confederation, after extensive renovation and restoration work. The salons, theatre hall, two chapels and further outhouses characterize the patrician lifestyle of the era, whilst the museum depicts the history of the French embassy in Solothurn from 1530-1792. Schloss Waldegg is also used for meetings, seminars, concerts and other events.
