Built in the 1960s, the University of St Gallen, called locally HSG (an acronym of its former name), is small but has one of Europe’s leading German-speaking business faculties. It is known for the number and quality of its art works, which are integrated into the buildings in such a way as to complement the modern architecture and become part of students’ everyday life. Most of the art works were created specifically for the buildings. Amongst the artists whose work is represented are Hans Arp, Georges Braque, Carl Burckhardt, Alexander Calder, Alberto Giacometti, Jean Miró, Otto Müller and Antoni Tàpies.
