The island of Ufenau in the Zürichsee is a romantic spot, a short boat trip away from Rapperswil-Jona. It is a protected area and swimming, camping and other leisure activities are forbidden. Ufenau has been owned by the Einsiedeln Abbey since 965 and its highlights are the church of St Peter and St Paul and the St Martin chapel. The church dates from the 11th/12th centuries and was restored in 1958/59, whilst the 7th century St Martin’s was last restored in 1964/65. The island’s ‘Zu den Zwei Raben’ restaurant was built in 1870. The tiny island of Lützelau is nearby.
