Zürich has had a tram museum since 1989, initially this was in the old Wartau tram depot, but when this became too small, a new museum was created in the former Burgwies depot. The old museum closed in October 2006, and the new museum not only covers the history and development of trams in Zürich, but also has a model tramway layout, as well as original vehicles from 1897-1960 and much more. The official opening of the museum coincided with 125 years of trams in Zürich and 40 years of Verein Tram Museum Zürich (Zürich Tram Museum Society).
