The Town Museum of Stäfa is housed in a fascinating old building, the central portion of which was constructed as a plank house around 1460. The building’s varied history includes a period in the 17th and 18th century when it housed a dyeing plant and a third floor room where the dyer Johannes Pfenninger (1717-1795) sat as village court judge. It was also subsequently used as a textile printing works and for milling. The original building has undergone a number of alterations and additions and in 1944, was taken over by the local reading society, who created the museum.
