Located virtually opposite the Old Arsenal (see separate entry) in Solothurn, the 15th century town hall (Rathaus) is one of its many impressive buildings. In the days of the city states, the arsenal and the town hall were built to impress and were a symbol of power. Built originally in 1476, the facade was re-modelled in the period 1623-1711 and the cantilevered spiral staircase also dates from this time. Another outstanding feature of this building is the fine Renaissance doorway.
