The Thunersee-Hohgant Nature Park stretches from the shores of Lake Thun some 350 km² (135 square miles) and rises to nearly 2,200 metres above sea level. It is run by about 20 local authorities and includes the largest cave network in Europe, spectacular views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau and the wild karst area of the peaks known as the ‘Seven Stallions’. It is the natural home of ibex, eagles, the lynx and alpine herbs. The Park board organise excursions, broadly under the categories of Nature and Discovery, Humans and Landscape and Culture and Handicrafts.
