Zürich is a city of many unusual sculptures and included in this category is the huge Rhinoceros (Das Nashorn), a work by John A Tolbler. Tobler is a local Zürich sculptor who works in iron and whose work is particularly popular in America and the Middle East. This rhino weighs about half a ton and has, since 1980, stood on guard outside the head office of one of the major Swiss banks in Bahnhofstrasse. It is said to symbolise security, strength and steadfastness.
