Located next to the Fotomuseum (see separate entry), the Swiss Photography Foundation (Fotostiftung Schweiz) was established in 1971, for the preservation, acquisition and presentation of photographic works. The foundation organises exhibitions, issues publications on the history of Swiss photography and supports present-day photography in Switzerland by purchasing contemporary work. It also administers a photographic literature library. The exhibition area is 1,300 m˛ and there is a lounge with films on photographic subjects. The foundation’s collection has a focal point of Swiss works from the 1930s to the 1950s, supplemented by international photography. The George Museum Bistro is on the property.
