In a beautiful location on Lake Sempach, about 9 km south of Sursee, the Swiss Ornithological Institute is well worth a visit. The Institute is a non-profit foundation which monitors bird migration paths and breeding populations and carries out research in respect of the 200 species of birds which breed in Switzerland. There is an exhibition, slide show, garden with various biotopes, aviaries, a pond with aquatic birds and a lakeside observation platform. Guided tours can be arranged and there is a shop where you can buy the Swiss Bird Guide and other items.
