Sursee is located 23 km northwest of Lucerne, at the northern end of Lake Sempach and close to where the River Sur or Suhre enters the lake. It has a population of around 8,500 and is at an altitude of 504 metres above sea level. Apart from the attractions separately listed, the Roman Catholic Parish Church of St George with its distinctive tower, the Town Hall (Rathaus) and the market place are features of interest. Interestingly, the town was awarded the prestigious Wakker prize in 2003, for controlling the previous uninhibited expansion of the town and preservation of the old quarter.
