The unusual abstract fountain in Carrara marble, known as the ‘Drinking Fountain’, stands outside the new Zug railway station (see separate entry) which was opened in November 2003. It was designed by the internationally known Russian born American sculptors, husband and wife team, Ilya and Emilia Kabakov. It has been described as the ‘Manneken-Pis … in the guise of modern sculpture’ and depicts the lower half of a male torso in which natural water circulation finds expression. The Kabakov’s small sculpture standing in such a large space seems to represent man in relation to the world.
