Spiez is approximately 10 km south of Thun and the small German speaking town is worth visiting for its castle, together with its church (see separate entry) and grounds. The castle, which was owned by the Strättligen, Bubenberg and Erlach families, now houses a museum which covers the transition from medieval castle to patrician residence. You will see the furnished living quarters and the rooms used for official functions, including the beautifully decorated early Baroque banqueting room and the wood-panelled Renaissance room. There are stunning views from the top of the tower. The castle is used for cultural events.
