The Sphere and Endless Spiral sculpture in General Guisan-Quai is a work by the multi-talented Swiss sculptor, architect, painter, industrial and graphic designer, Max Bill (1908-1994). Bill is also responsible for the granite sculpture in front of the UBS bank headquarters in Bahnofstrasse and is a man who has had a profound effect on a wide range of Swiss art forms. The three-ton sculpture is a 1983 work in Italian Pavona granite. It is said to illustrate Bill’s belief that an approach to art based on mathematical thinking can lead to inexplicable and mysterious results.
