Sils is located at an altitude of 1,804 metres and in an idyllic position between two lakes, the Silvaplanersee and Silsersee. It is the cultural centre of Engadin and has two traffic-free villages Sils-Maria and Sils-Baselgia. The Furtschella Mountain peaks at 2,800 metres and the cable car, which begins near the village, leads to many ski runs in winter and to summer walking trails from the 2,300-metre upper station. The Nietzsche Haus and Andrea Robbi Museum (see separate entries) are just two of the attractions of Sils, which has well preserved architecture and stages many cultural events.
