Scuol is located at an altitude of 1,290 metres on the north bank of the River Inn, approximately 48 km east of Davos. A winter sports and spa resort, which has the impressive Engadine Baths Complex (see separate entry), Scuol has, together with the villages of Bad Tarasp, Vulpera and Tarasp-Fontana, become the leading resort in the Lower Engadine. First mentioned in 1095 as Schulles, the village population is around 2,250. Attractions include the 17th century ‘Cha Gronda’ sgraffiti decorated house which is home to the local museum, and the late-Gothic St Georg Church which dates from 1516 and has a magnificent interior.
