A visit to Schoggi Land, the Maestrani chocolate factory at Flawil, about 20 km west of St Gallen, is a real treat for chocolate lovers. It was in 1852 that Aquilino Maestrani opened his own business in Lucerne and laid the foundation of Swiss chocolate art; the present factory opened in 1998. You can watch the manufacturing process from the 80 metre long visitors’ gallery, where video terminals inform you about the company, the manufacture of chocolate and the various technologies used. There is also a museum covering company history. Naturally you can, of course, both taste and buy the products.
