Located on the Bahnhofstrasse side of the Limmat, and between Lindenhof and the river, Schipfe is one of the oldest quarters of Zürich. Its name comes from the term schupfen (to push), which fishermen used when they manoeuvred their boats to and from the river bank. This quaint area was at one time the centre of the silk industry and also the location of bath houses and boatbuilding. It is still an area of artisans, where quality custom-made products are available in small shops and workshops along the river. A great place to wander.
