Housed on the ground floor of the Museum Bärengasse (see separate entry), is the Sasha Morgenthaler Puppenmuseum. The museum exhibits unique and original dolls from Sasha Morgenthaler’s (1893-1975) personal collection. Sasha had a formal training in both painting and sculpture and married a painter. She started making the cloth, gypsum and plastic dolls in 1940, but these were works of art and too expensive to be children’s playthings. As a result, in the mid 1960’s she developed a smaller and cheaper doll series, which had unique features and became universally famous. The dolls all have individually painted faces.
