Housed in the Villa Wesendonck, built in 1857 and acquired by the Zürich city council in 1952, the Rietberg Museum also utilises the Park-Villa Rieter and, for temporary exhibitions, the Haus zum Kiel. The villa was once the home of Richard Wagner (1813-1883). The museum exhibits art from Asia, Africa and Ancient America and has recently been enlarged and revamped under the supervision of the architects Alfred Grazioli and Adolf Krischanitz. The collections include Buddhist and Hindu art from China, India, Japan and Southeast Asia and Tibetan bronzes, African masks and sculptures and artwork from the ancient Americas.
