The present attractive fountain in Fischmarkt, near the Clock Tower and Town Hall (see separate entries), was sculpted in 1956 by the artist Andreas Kögler and depicts a boy holding a pike. The first fountain was probably from the middle of the 16th century, as it was given a new plinth in 1670. The original trough, destroyed in 1857, had the required sizes of the various fish marked on it, for the benefit of fishmongers. There was a sculpture of a lion sitting on its haunches, this was removed in 1868 and is today on the top gable of the customs house.
