The Schlossturm Pfäffikon is located about 6 km east of Richterswil; it was built during the middle of the 13th Century as protection for a Benedictine monastery. Walls, ramparts and ditches were added in 1299, but the walls and ramparts were removed by 1820. Napoleon’s troops badly damaged the structures in 1798, necessitating extensive renovations. An association was formed in 1983 to restore the tower, ditches and also the chapel (see separate entry) and this work was carried out in the period 1986-88. The tower now houses a regional museum on the third floor and is also used for cultural events.
