Located at the heart of the Bahnhofstrasse is Paradeplatz, one of Switzerland’s most famous squares. It is an important tram interchange and the headquarters to a number of major Swiss banks including UBS and Credit Suisse. In the 18th century Paradeplatz held a regular cattle market and gets its name from the fact that it was also sometimes used as a parade ground. Packed with cafes, a major attraction for tourists is Zürich’s finest confectioner Confiserie Sprüngli which offers various flavours of its famous Luxemburgerli, delicious chocolates and cakes. Paradeplatz is also home to the traditional Hotel Savoy Baur en Ville, built in 1838.
