Oberburg Castle Museum, located about 9 km west of St Gallen, stands on a hill and dominates the town of Gossau; it is the town’s oldest preserved residence. The castle was built in the 13th century and the first official reference to it was in 1262; it was rebuilt after a fire in 1955 and work was completed in 1958. There are magnificent views, a chapel, a small museum and a legendary ghost. These days it is a popular restaurant excursion with a Court room, Knight’s room, the Abbey Beda parlour, the Bot Künzle parlour and a Documents room.
