The Nike Fountain, which is its official name, although the artist prefers the name L’étranger (Stranger), is located in Rindermarkt at the junction with Niederdorfstrasse. Following the explosives attack on Jupiter in 1987, the Zürich City Council held a competition for a new fountain sculpture; this was won by the Swiss born sculptress Barbara Roth (b.1950). Barbara lives and works in Zürich and was a student of Peter Meister, her work is frequently exhibited in Switzerland and elsewhere. This bronze sculpture, which at first sight is abstract, is transformed into a winged creature as you approach.
