The Natural History Museum is located in the same building as the Kunstmuseum (see separate entry) and, since its opening, has received great praise for its innovative approach and received the ‘Prix Expo’ museum award for ‘entering new territory in terms of museums’. The museum set out to replace the traditional with a family friendly and modern approach to the world of nature and the integrated Kerala Children’s Museum (see separate entry) typifies this approach. There are temporary exhibitions focussing on indigenous animals and plants, accompanied by field trips and workshops.
