The Muri Abbey, located approximately 23 km northwest of Zug, is one of the Aargau canton’s most important monuments. Founded in 1027, the Benedictine abbey flourished for over 800 years until closure in 1841. Highlights of the Abbey church and cloisters are the Renaissance stained glass windows, the paintings by Muri artist Caspar Wolf (1735-1783) in the cellars and the abbey museum. The church has a total of five organs, two of which are 1931 copies of the originals now in museums. The main organ dates back to 1630 and was completely and authentically restored in the period 1966 to 1971.
