Schaffhausen’s Münster zu Allerheiligen, now a Protestant church, formerly belonged to the Benedictine abbey of All Saints and was consecrated in 1052. A fine example of Romanesque religious architecture, it has the largest Romanesque-Gothic cloister in Switzerland, circling the noblemen’s cemetery, many of whom are commemorated on plaques set into the wall. The church has a single, beautifully restored, tower. The internal furnishings are sparse, but the choir contains remains of old wall-paintings and there are three stained glass windows and a large tapestry. On the north side externally is a bronze figure of David with Goliath’s head, which dates from 1959.
