The lovely village of Merligen is situated on the Thunersee and about 12 km southeast of Thun. Its church is sited in a dominant position and faced with local Balmholz stone; it was designed by local architect Jakob Wipf and inaugurated on 26th September 1937. The windows in the south wall, dating from 1968, portraying Noah, Moses, Christ and John, are an outstanding feature and the work of Swiss late expressionist artist Fred Stauffer (1892-1980). The church is a Merligen landmark and is a very popular wedding venue.
