Saillon’s medieval village is said to be one of the best preserved in Switzerland. Situated on a hill, it is a wonderful example of Switzerland’s historical legacy. The old town has a semi-Mediterranean atmosphere, which adds to the enjoyment of any visit. The main tower and gates, the defensive walls and many other remnants of the past are not only intact, but beautifully preserved. The charm of the old town’s narrow streets seems to hark back to a previous age, when life was lived at a slower pace. Every four years the town hosts a Medieval Christmas festival.
