The Mauritiushof gallery serves two functions; the upper floor houses the estate of the Basel artist Pieter van de Cuylen (1909-1990) and his works are exhibited in changing exhibitions. The ground floor, which is known as the ‘Galerie zum Elephanten’, stages a series of temporary exhibitions of Swiss and overseas artists, sometimes with the artist in attendance. The rooms are also used for musical evenings, readings and other cultural events. Van de Cuylen’s work can also be seen in the Oberen Kirche.
