The popular Lungern has much to offer visitors in addition to its lake swimming complex (see separate entry). At the southern end of the Lungerersee, and about 16 km southwest of Sarnen, its attractions include the old church tower (Alter Kirchturm), the neo-Gothic church, the Chäppeli and a 2.5 km didactic trail with 40 information boards. But Lungern is also a winter resort and a cableway runs from Lungern-Obsee (via Turren) for skiing at Schönbüel (2,010 metres). From there a 4 km path leads to the Brienzer Rothorn and a ski-lift to the Hohe Gumme (2,209 metres).
