The Lime Kiln of Côte Malherbe dates back to 1857, but the last batch was created in 1942. After this date the kiln was left to decay and became overgrown with vegetation. An attempt was made at restoration in 1978, but it wasn’t until the 700th birthday of the Confederation in 1991 that it was finally put back into working order. Lime was used as building material until the end of the 19th century, when cement and modern techniques made it redundant. Today, lime is produced primarily for the restoration of old buildings.
