Near the Greth Schell Fountain (see separate entry), the Liebfrauen Chapel (Chapel of our Dear Lady) was first referred to in documentation in 1266 and is the oldest church in Zug. It is on the southern boundary of the old town and was, in fact, built on to the old town wall. The highlight is the life-cycle painting of the Virgin Mary on the ceiling, between the chancel and the gallery; it is the work of the local baroque painter Johannes Brandenberg (1661-1729). Other features are the 18th Century sculpture of the Madonna at the entrance and the remains of a restored late-Gothic mural.
