The exact central point of Switzerland is located about 15 km south of Sarnen on Älggi Alp. It was calculated by the Federal Office for National Topography in 1988, and marked with a beacon, to celebrate its 150th anniversary. The location is extremely attractive, at an altitude of 1,650 metres above sea level and is easily accessible from Sachen by car, on foot or by mountain bike. Well signposted and a popular destination for hikers, there is a small lake and a mountain restaurant nearby. It is also a pleasant scenic walk from Melchsee-Frutt (see separate entry).
