The historic and imposing Landhaus, located in Landhausquai on the banks of the River Aare, was originally the landing site for wine shipments. It was completely destroyed by fire in 1955 and has been rebuilt from foundations up. Owned by the Municipality, it is a conference centre and also houses important works of art in the hall. ‘Three Women’ a bronze by locally born sculptor Oscar Wiggli (b.1927) is on show, together with work by Hans Jauslin (1909-1958), ‘Apollo and the Muses’ by Maurice Barraud (1889-1954) and episodes from the history of Solothurn.
