Lake Sarnen (Sarnersee), located about 20 km south of Lucerne, is an idyllic place surrounded by superb scenery; it is the blue lung of the Sarnen valley. About 6 km long and 1.3 km wide, its surface area is approximately 7.5 km² (2.9 square miles). The northernmost point is 10 minutes walk south of the main town Sarnen; the other town of size being Sachseln. You can enjoy the beautiful landscape on a comfortable lake cruise (contact Sarnen Tourismus) or hire a motor boat, rowing boat or fishing boat (fishing is permitted without license between April 1 and October 15).
