Opened in 1988, the Lagerhaus Museum was founded to foster the various aspects of ‘Outsider Art’, including ‘Art Brut’ and ‘Naive Art’. Artists of this school are self taught and/or have, for a variety of reasons, little or no contact with the mainstream art world. Their works, often only discovered after their death, use unconventional ideas and/or elaborate fantasy worlds. The museum exhibitions are created from a collection of some 3,000 works, by more than 150 artists and are designed to stimulate or awaken interest and understanding of this art form. In addition to the permanent exhibition, four specialist exhibitions are staged annually.
