Regarded by many as Switzerland’s top art museum, the Kunsthaus focuses on the 19th and 20th century for its permanent collection, but has at least ten other exhibitions here annually. The gallery owns a large number of works by Edvard Munch (1863-1944) and, amongst other artists on display, are Paul Cézanne, Edgar Degas, Claude Monet and Auguste Rodin and it has modern collections from artists such as Chagall, Lipschitz, Marini and Mondrian. There are also works by Swiss artists, including Alberto Giacometti (1901-1966) and Johann Heinrich Füssli (1741–1825). An audio guide, giving background information on some 200 works, is available.
