Located in the grounds of the Ethnology Museum (Völkerkundemuseum) (see separate entry) is the bronze sculpture Kopf im Gehäuse, literally meaning ‘Head in Casing’. It is the work of distinguished Swiss modern sculptor Otto Müller (1905-1993) created in 1978/79. The work is described by Müller as a ‘Symbol of the human being who knows he has no right to do all that he has the power to do’. It is said to reflect the fact that man sees himself as central and, having created his own milieu, finds he is a prisoner of that environment.
